Our Purpose & Vision
Our Purpose
Loving God,
Loving our Neighbours
& Making Disciples of Jesus
As God’s written revelation, the Bible is the foundation for everything we do at Uxbridge Baptist Church. And so to understand the purpose of UBC, we must open up God’s word and hear from God as we follow Jesus in both the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. This purpose then becomes the funnel for everything we do at UBC.
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. (Matthew 22:37-38)
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:39-40)
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
Our Vision
By 2029, UBC will be a thriving family of faith who learn to love, follow, serve, share, and praise Jesus
The Bible defines the purpose of the church, however, we must take a step further and discern God’s specific call for UBC. What does it mean to love God, love our neighbours and make disciples of Jesus in the 21st century in Uxbridge? The answer to this question is what we call UBC Vision, as we seek to focus on the specific work that God has called us to. We hope this serves as an invitation to actively join us in God’s call rather than remain a passive observer.
Love Jesus: In union with Christ through the power of Spirit to the glory of the Father we will be a light on a hill, a beacon of hope, where all who are weary, wounded, and lost will be welcomed home, and invited to encounter our Risen Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. With our efforts wholly dependent on God, we will celebrate 100 baptisms.
Follow Jesus: Gathering together in wholehearted worship we will become a fellowship of 500 devoted disciples as we align our lives in service to God’s glory. Strangers will be welcomed as friends and friends will be embraced as family.
Serve Jesus: We will walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, embracing accountability through community and growth through participation. 60% of our congregation will be involved in Life Groups — groups that are committed to living life together. We will rejoice together, laugh together and mourn together. And together, we will grow in our faith, abilities and gifts through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
Share Jesus: And as we are equipped, we will go. We will give the best of our time, abilities and treasures in the unrelenting pursuit of the Great Commission in Uxbridge and beyond. 80% of our Life Groups will be active in mission, embodying Christ’s compassion and vocalising His Gospel.
Praise Jesus: In everything we will lift high the name of Jesus, through the uncompromising preaching of God’s word, in faithful obedience, fervent prayer, and God-exalting worship. We will be known by our love for God and for one another, and, as we love, the streets of Uxbridge will overflow with living water.
