Our Beliefs

What We Believe

Basic Beliefs

These basic doctrines represent what we believe to be core elements of biblical teaching. See our statement of faith for a full description of what we believe.

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of God, and therefore the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct

The Triune God

We believe there is only one living and true God, infinite in being and in all perfections, who exists eternally in three Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holly Spirit.

Humans & Sin

We believe that humans were created in the image of God but because we disobeyed God, sin entered the world and now, all those who stand outside of Christ are forever separated from God

Salvation

We believe that God, by His grace, saves all those who turn from their sin and trust in Jesus Christ, justifying them through their faith in Jesus alone

Sanctification

We believe the members of the Body of Christ are perfected as to their standing before God forever by the one offering of the blood of Christ and are constantly renewed by the Word, the Cross, and the Spirit.

Things to Come

We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ will return in person and take His church unto Himself and fully establish His Kingdom of righteousness and peace

The Church

We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ, made up of all who are truly united by the Holy Spirit

Theological Distinctions

Theological Distinctives

Theological distinctive reflect what distinguishes UBC from other churches that would affirm the basic doctrines. These distinctive indelibly shape the way that UBC is led and the direction we are headed

Complementarian

Men and women are absolutely equal in essence, dignity and value but are distinct by divine design. As part of God’s good created order, men and women are to have different yet complementary roles and responsibilities in the home and church.

Continuationism

We believe that all spiritual gifts seen in the New Testament— including those of prophecy, healing, and speaking in tongues—did not cease with the death of the apostles but continue for consistent and well-ordered use in the Church for building up the body of Christ.

Baptism

We believe that believers should be baptized into the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We baptise by immersion upon profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

Election

We believe that, God has from all eternity chosen a vast multitude in Christ and predestined them unto salvation through the effectual calling of His Spirit.
