Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Although this week has looked quite different than others in the past, it is such a blessing to have the family of God to connect with. As a leadership team we have been working hard to keep things moving forward as much as we can, developing and strategizing ways help those who may be in need.

A few things we have in place are:

  • A list of shut-ins has been divided up among the deacons who will call and keep in touch with them and find out the needs they may have.
  • A twice a week a devotion for children is being sent out to our children ministry leads to forward to families.
  • We will continue to have church service available on-line and hopefully very soon this will include video as well.
  • Posting of devotions and words of encouragement on our Facebook page.

Please continue to encourage one another. However, in accordance with new directives from trusted health officials, we are requesting that small groups no longer meet in person. There are some great technologies available to allow you to continue to connect – Zoom, FaceTime, Skype, and even teleconferencing. Pray for each other over the phone or read scripture and help one another where and when you can.

As you Worship through this service, praying, singing, listening, trust that God has got this! Be blessed as you press on and trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, acknowledge Him, thank Him, cry out to Him for He is our incredible God!

In Hope,

The UBC Leadership Team

WORSHIPPING TOGETHER – MARCH 22, 2020

Call to Worship (Read in Response): adapted from re-worship.blogspot.com

Leader:    Let us worship the One who calls us.

People:    Here we are,

                  ready or not,

in the middle of the unknown,

                  called by the One

                  who lived and died,

and rose to live again among us.

Leader:    Here we are,

ready or not,

ready to press on,

bringing our everyday selves

to praise and to pray,

to know the Holy One

in the midst of our lives.

All:            Let us worship the One who calls us.

Praying Together:

Heavenly Father, we thank you for being with us today and always. We glorify your Holy name. We adore and love you. We confess that these are strange times, but we know that it is not the first time that your church has had to gather in small groups. We will persevere because of your promise that where two or more gather in your name, you, too, are present. We welcome you here today and ask that you bless this time together. We think of our friends and family who are in isolation and cannot join with others today to worship you, for them, we pray for comfort and your shalom. We think of all those on the front line of this pandemic, for them we pray for your strength and encouragement. We are so grateful that you have made them and called them to serve your people the way that they do. We are thankful for the reminders this week during our devotional time that you are Sovereign, that you are present, that you are love, that you call us to be strong and courageous, and that we are to be witnesses to our faith in you. Please guide us in our witness to your love and hope. Help us to see this change to our routine, not as an obstacle but as an opportunity, an opportunity to spend more time with you and to share you with others in new and exciting ways. We raise these prayers to you with hope. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

This morning’s Scripture Reading (Read by a Single Voice): Philippians 3:12-16 (NIV)

12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

15 All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

Respond Together, Worshipping:

Build Your Kingdom by Rend Collective (words below)

Verse 1

Come set Your rule and reign
In our hearts again
Increase in us we pray
Unveil why we’re made
Come set our hearts ablaze with hope
Like wildfire in our very souls
Holy Spirit come invade us now
We are Your church
We need Your pow’r in us

Verse 2

We seek Your kingdom first
We hunger and we thirst
Refuse to waste our lives
For You’re our joy and prize
To see the captives’ hearts released
The hurt the sick the poor at peace
We lay down our lives for heaven’s cause
We are Your church
We pray revive this earth

Chorus

Build Your kingdom here
Let the darkness fear
Show Your mighty hand
Heal our streets and land
Set Your church on fire
Win this nation back
Change the atmosphere
Build Your kingdom here we pray

Verse 3

Unleash Your kingdom’s pow’r
Reaching the near and far
No force of hell can stop
Your beauty changing hearts
You made us for much more than this
Awake the kingdom seed in us
Fill us with the strength and love of Christ
We are Your church
We are the hope on earth

Respond Together, Praying: (adapted from the hymn May the Mind of My Christ My Saviour)

May the mind of Christ, my Savior,
live in me from day to day,
by his love and power controlling
all I do and say.

May the Word of God dwell richly
in my heart from hour to hour,
so that all may see I triumph
only through his power.

May the peace of God my Father
rule my life in everything,
that I may be calm to comfort
sick and sorrowing.

May the love of Jesus fill me
as the waters fill the sea;
him exalting, self abasing:
this is victory.

May I run the race before me,
strong and brave to face the foe,
looking only unto Jesus
as I onward go.

Amen.

Benediction (Bless each other, read this together): Adapted. Copyright © 2002 Nathan Nettleton www.laughingbird.net

We go now in the righteousness of faith
and live by God’s just demands.
Letting nothing claim our devotion above the Lord,
and counting nothing of value above knowing Christ.
Pressing on towards the ultimate prize, of being one with him.

And may God’s perfect word revive our souls;
May Christ Jesus be our saviour and our rock;
And may the Holy Spirit strengthen us to press ever onward.

We go in peace to love and serve the Lord,
……..In the name of Christ. Amen.
