Our Philosophy of Worship

Worship of God is expressed in many ways and is a means to capture our hearts and minds for God. The worship ministry exists to facilitate the people of Uxbridge Baptist to exalt God, equip them for their faith journey and to evangelize our community. The worship ministry’s primary influence is the corporate worship of the body which seeks to bring all people into a closer relationship with God.

At Uxbridge Baptist Church we have a blended, intergenerational Worship service. It is our hope that you will find here the opportunity and atmosphere where you can truly connect with God your Father and Creator.

Worship Teams
At Uxbridge Baptist Church, we engage in musical worship with a blended selection of hymns and contemporary praise and worship songs.   Our desire is to worship the Lord, in a manner consistent with Ephesians 5: 18b – 20 which says,

“…be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

UBC uses the worship leader and team/band approach.  The individuals that make up the team work together, bringing their unique musical and spiritual gifts to encourage the congregation to engage in a genuine encounter with God for the sake of His glory.

We have two worship teams which include vocalists and instrumentalists. These teams generally alternate the leading of the Sunday morning services.  The worship ministry team (as a whole), also includes ‘Easy Worship’ technicians that setup and project song lyrics, announcements, sermon outlines, videos etc., and sound technicians that manage all the sound needs for the services.

There is also a youth worship team which lead at youth events and a young adults team that lead worship at the young adult “Redemption” services.  These teams lead Sunday services occasionally.
Communion

We celebrate communion monthly, usually on the first Sunday of each month. It is a time in which we remember the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on our behalf and we express our thanks to God for this indescribable gift. All who have a relationship with Christ and who seek to follow him in their lives are welcome to participate in this celebration. The grape juice served reminding us of the shed blood of Christ and bread to remind us of His broken body. It is a powerful demonstration of God’s great love for us and our commitment to follow Him.

Peoples Prayer

We believe that we come together in worship as a community of people who are learning to love God and love others. One of the ways this is manifested is in the portion of our morning service which is called “Peoples Prayer”. Prayer and information is brought to the congregation by various leaders in the church.

Audio/Visual Support

A professor of preaching once said, “It doesn’t really matter much what you say if no one can hear or see you.” Excellent technical support is crucial to our worship services in such a media-conscious culture. This area of our worship service, though not serving on the platform, enhances our worship greatly. These people become members on worship teams or as back-up help to either operate the Easy Worship and screen (used for singing, Scripture and sermons) during the service or to operate the sound system for all aspects of the audio portion of the service. Training in each of these areas is provided.

Speaker Recordings

The Sunday morning service is recorded by the Audio Visual Team. Messages are available on the Media web page, and at iTunes.  Archived recordings are available at the Church Library.

Ushering

This is a very practical and friendly ministry which helps the congregation come together to worship on Sunday mornings. Ushers help people be seated, hand out bulletins and collect the morning offering.

Drama

On various occasions drama is used to enhance our corporate worship. This has taken on many different forms but is a powerful way of expressing ideas. Though no formal drama team exists, there is opportunity for people to serve in this way throughout the year.

Decorating

The main occasion for decorating the church is in preparation for special events including the celebration of Advent and Christmas. We have several beautiful trees and a growing collection of decorations that enhance the joy of the season. This is an area that offers an opportunity for creative expression.

Choirs and Musicals

Much of our praise and thanks to God is expressed through music. During different times of the year, choir may be offered for differing groups. This would involve a short-term commitment of rehearsals and performances and is open to all who enjoy using their voice in song. In the past, we also have had musicals for varying age groups at the church. These provide opportunities for people to be involved in all aspects of musical production – marketing, set design, drama and lots of fun!

Baptism

We consider baptism by immersion to be an outward sign of our inward faith. It is a public demonstration of your decision to follow Christ. We set aside a number of Sundays during the year for baptisms. If you are interested in baptism, you will meet with someone to discuss the biblical understanding of baptism and to share your own faith journey. Baptism classes are offered prior to all baptisms. Please contact one of our pastors.

Parent/Child Dedications

Children are a gift from God. Giving thanks to God for a child is one of the reasons we offer Parent/Child Dedications during Sunday morning services. It is a time for the parents to publicly dedicate the child to the Lord and to commit to bringing up the child in the Christian faith. We also ask the rest of the congregation to support and pray for this family as they raise the child. Contact Lead Pastor Dale Dawson.
