WORSHIPING TOGETHER – Sunday June 21, 2020

As we honour fathers and recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day, we pray that you were encouraged by the Vimeo Worship and Rev. Dr. Keith Daly’s message, Perfect Father. We want to thank all of those who participated in creating this week’s service. We are so grateful for your contributions.

As you continue to worship together in your online and household groups, we offer the following as a guide:

Opening Prayer: (Read by a Single Voice)

Heavenly Father, we give you thanks and praise for all that you are. We give you thanks that you are always available, always approachable. We are so blessed that you both love to give good gifts but also provide correction. We admit that there are times when it is hard to comprehend that we don’t have to earn your love and that your love will never cease. Yours is a love rooted in patience and kindness. We pray for your wisdom to recognize opportunities to share all that you are with others that they too would come to know you. Thank you for the model of your Son and the companionship of your Spirit. We give you our glory today and always. Amen.

Reading Scripture: (Take Turns Reading)

13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.
….
17 But from everlasting to everlasting
the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children’s children—
18 with those who keep his covenant
and remember to obey his precepts.

(Psalms 103:13-14, 17-18 NIV)

11 My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline,
and do not resent his rebuke,
12 because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
as a father the son he delights in.

(Proverbs 3:11-12 NIV)

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 NIV)

1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. (1 John 3:1-3 NIV)

Checking In:

  • Which of God’s fatherly characteristics challenges you the most? Why?

Close in prayer for one another and then with these words: (Read by a Single Voice)

16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

(2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 NIV).
