WORSHIPING TOGETHER – Sunday August 9, 2020

We pray that you were encouraged by the Vimeo Worship and Rev. Dr. Keith Daly’s message, The Truth Shall Set You Free. We want to thank all of those who participated in creating this week’s service. We are so grateful for your contributions.

As you continue to worship together in your online and household groups, we offer the following as a guide:

Opening Prayer: (Read by a Single Voice)

Almighty God, we profess that we believe Jesus to be the way, the truth, and the life. And it is only through his saving blood that we are reconciled to you. There is much in this world that whispers to us trying to distract us from your truth, trying to hide your truth from us, telling us that truth is flexible. Thank you for sending your Spirit as our counselor that we would remain focused on your truth and be able to discern its eternal value. We desire to live in your light, to choose your saving grace over sin, and to be your ambassadors in a fallen world. Help us to grow strong in your truth, to share it with others, so that united in and to you we would know your freedom. Amen.

Reading Scripture: (Take Turns Reading)

18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created….

22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.  James 1:18, 22-25 (NIV)

This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.  1 John 1:5-7 (NIV)

  • Can you share a time when you were challenged by a “flexible” truth, how did you respond?
  • How do you demonstrate the freedom that you have in Christ?

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Phil 4:8-9 (NIV). Amen.
