WORSHIPING TOGETHER – Sunday August 16, 2020

We pray that you were encouraged by the Vimeo Worship and Rev. Dr. Tom Cullen’s message, Why We Are Not Ashamed of the Gospel. We want to thank all of those who participated in creating this week’s service. We are so grateful for your contributions.

As you continue to worship together in your online and household groups, we offer the following as a guide:

Opening Prayer: (Read by a Single Voice)

Lord, we come before you professing that we are sometimes ashamed to share your Good News with others. Help us to overcome our shame and our fear. Help us to look to those who came before us and to those in front of us as examples of our heritage of faith. Help us to proclaim with joyful hearts that you are the Truth, the Way, and the Life and that it is by your Grace, through faith, that we are forgiven of our sins, saved for eternal life with you. You offer a hope that the world cannot. You offer a peace that the world cannot. You offer a love that has no end. Give us discerning hearts for opportunities to share your Good News with others so that one day, all would know your name. Amen.

Reading Scripture: (Take Turns Reading)

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” Romans 1:16-17 (NIV)

1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:1-5 (NIV)

Checking In:

  • (Adults) What one thing would you want a young person to know about sharing the Gospel with another person?
  • (Children/Youth) How can the adults in your life encourage you to share the Gospel with a friend?
  • How do you discern (know) when the time is right to share the Gospel with someone?

Close in prayer for one another and then with these words: (Read by a Single Voice)

3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:3 (NIV) 14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 2 Corinthians 13:14 (NIV). Amen.
