LEGACY

Gen 25:7-11; Gal 3:6-9

  1. THE DEATH OF ABRAHAM:

7 Abraham lived a hundred and seventy-five years. 8 Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, an old man and full of years; and he was gathered to his people. 9 His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah near Mamre, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite, 10 the field Abraham had bought from the Hittites. There Abraham was buried with his wife Sarah. 11 After Abraham’s death, God blessed his son Isaac, who then lived near Beer Lahai Roi. Genesis 25:7-11 (NIV)

  1. THE HERITAGE OF ABRAHAM:

Historically…

Biblically…

  • Covenant fulfilment
  • Jesus as the promised seed
  • Abraham foresaw Christ and rejoiced
  • Abraham is still living in some sense
  • Abraham’s faith was accomplished by instant and complete obedience

  1. THE CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM:

6 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”
7 Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. 8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. Galatians 3:6-9 (NIV)

How can we become the children of Abraham?

  • Not by biological descent.
  • Not by religious ritual.
  • But by sharing the same faith

What is the blessing of the children of Abraham?

  • The Gift of Justification
  • The Gift of the Spirit
